Hi. I'm from a white, middle-class small city outside of Chicago. I ended up here after reading a Slow Boring post. 2 comments. We have a very small homeless issue, and we're quite willing to work with a church to open a shelter. But with any structure, you need organization, resources and wisdom. We decided it would be better to work on ways to get people to an existing, well-staffed facility with a history of what works and what doesn't. There is an economy of scale in this as in any other project.

The second comment is that once a person lives there, they are a neighborhood resident, and don't you expect a certain amount of human misbehavior from those residents as you do among other types, such as renters and owners? I think the police would tell you that domestic issues don't respect the nuances of residence. I really wish Boise luck. I have a son in Portland Oregon, and it's (homelessness AND the strategies to respond) have really hurt it as a place to visit.

The second installment of a series exposing the dark side of the Sanctuary has posted. If you are involved in the fight, I urge you to read it. And, please, show your support by donating. This guy is doing this on nothing while taking a great risk.
